As part of the alliance, TMHNA will provide support to Tailift USA to help strengthen its product, distribution management, service, and support for dealers and customers. TMHNA and Tailift USA also will collaborate on business support tools to strengthen the Tailift organization.

TMHNA is comprised of two leading material handling and intralogistics brands: Toyota and Raymond. Tailift USA’s parent company was created by the Lin family in Taiwan in 1973, and in 2015, it became part of the Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) group of companies.

Jim O’Brien has been named managing director and will oversee Tailift USA’s operations. Jim has 30 years of experience in the material handling industry through a variety of roles with The Raymond Corporation. His experience spans a wide range of sales and operational areas, including oversight of telematics, aftermarket sales and support, and other product and quality support functions. He also has significant knowledge of the sales and distribution process, having closely partnered with many material handling dealers throughout his career.

“I am grateful for the opportunity with Tailift USA, and I am excited to utilize my experience in this endeavor,” O’Brien said. “That experience, coupled with the strengths of both companies, is expected to better position Tailift USA for future success.”

Amy Lin will supervise strategic alignment and ensure the smooth implementation of business goals as the representative of Tailift USA on the board of directors.

“I am excited for Tailift USA’s next chapter, and we believe working more closely with other members of the TICO family will be positive for the Tailift business,” Lin said.

“TMHNA is the industry leader in the material handling business,” said Sam Coles, TMHNA chief sales and marketing officer. “By building on this success and leveraging the strengths of both companies, we can optimize sales and operations while generating increased value for TICO’s overall material handling business.”

TICO views the alliance as a way to enhance Toyota’s material handling business in the United States. These efforts will not result in any changes to the existing dealership networks of Toyota Material Handling and The Raymond Corporation. Additionally, the sales organization of Tailift USA and the distribution management and governance methods remain unchanged.

Designed to provide the dependability required by intense industrial operations with zero exhaust emissions, this electric forklift can be configured with a range of drive motor and battery options to meet the productivity and cost requirements of specific applications.

“This electric variant furthers our mission to give operations mission-critical equipment with the performance they expect from Hyster, built for their unique requirements,” says Andrew Omahen, Director, Industry Solutions and Strategy, Hyster. “We know what it takes for equipment to stand up to tough outdoor and indoor applications, and this electric truck is engineered with the necessary component protections, power options and visibility to meet all-day productivity demands.”

These pneumatic tire electric A series models feature robust components and are designed for easy maintenance and reduced downtime. Updated dual-drive electric motors bring the same dependability and reliability that customers expect from internal combustion engines, and an enhanced motor package is available for operations that demand high performance and low energy consumption. The trucks include IP67-rated fully sealed drive motors and axle as standard, providing ingress protection against dust, debris and fluids without the need to specify or add special washdown or environmental protection packages.

HysterOperations can specify the trucks with their choice of battery option, including lead-acid, thin plate pure lead or lithium-ion battery power. This choice enables them to meet day-to-day productivity and sustainability goals, while also alleviating the need to overhaul existing electric infrastructure or charging workflows to accommodate a specific battery option.

The J45-70A offers a combination of ergonomics, technology and user-friendly controls to keep operators comfortable and productive all shift long. The spacious operator compartment features a variety of seat options, generous floor space and a user-friendly touchscreen display. The design prioritizes all-around visibility, with an industry-leading through-the-mast view and a range of overhead guard configurations. To keep operators comfortable and in control, a full-steel cabin with air-conditioning or heated options is available and new hydraulic control options include standard mechanical levers, mini-levers or new dual joystick hydraulic controls.

The Hyster Dynamic Stability System (DSS) comes standard on the Hyster J45-70A, designed to reduce the likelihood of tip overs and product damage through five integrated sensors that dynamically measure travel speed, lift height, tilt angle, load weight and steer angle. Paired with other technologies offered by Hyster, including the pedestrian awareness camera or other Hyster Reaction operator assist technologies, the solution can help to reinforce best operating practices in your operation. The base tier of Hyster Tracker telemetry is also a standard feature on the trucks, allowing operations to track their equipment usage and maintenance schedules, detect impacts and monitor real-time equipment locations.

Yale introduces pedestrian awareness camera as part of operator assist technology lineup https://industrialmachinerydigest.com/material-handling/forklifts/yale-introduces-pedestrian-awareness-camera-as-part-of-operator-assist-technology-lineup/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 18:42:02 +0000 https://industrialmachinerydigest.com/?p=140366 Yale Lift Truck Technologies announces a new pedestrian awareness camera solution, the latest addition to the Yale Reliant™ portfolio of active alert and assist technologies, which are designed to boost operator awareness and help support overall warehouse safety. The pedestrian awareness camera system can accurately identify pedestrians at ranges up to 16 feet through a 110-degree field of view and provides automatic alerts to the lift truck operator when a pedestrian is detected.

“Operator awareness is a foundational element of lift truck and pedestrian safety, and the Yale Reliant technology portfolio is designed to provide a helping hand for warehouses facing an increasingly transient labor pool and inexperienced lift truck operators,” says Brad Long, Global Activation Manager, Yale Lift Truck Technologies. “We’re continuing to target the challenges of real-world warehouse environments with research and development, and the pedestrian awareness camera solution offers the capability and configurability real-world warehouse environments need.”

YaleOperations can get the camera system with audible and visual alerts only, or take advantage of a third type of notification with the addition of optional traction alerts. Upon pedestrian detection, a voiceover communicates pedestrian proximity and a light indicates which zone the pedestrian is in on the truck-mounted operator remote. Traction alerts go a step further by automatically and gradually slowing down the lift truck, an effect similar to the operator removing their foot from the accelerator. While the operator remains in ultimate control of the equipment, this deceleration effect is intended to get their attention and encourage action to avoid the detected pedestrian by slowing down, steering away or both.

The pedestrian awareness detection system was developed using extensive amounts of real-world photographic data and adapts to various lighting and environmental conditions. The system is optimized for travel speeds of 5 miles per hour or less, giving operators ample time to identify alerts and react to avoid contact. The camera is mounted to the rear, forks-trailing side of the lift truck, and alerts disengage once the identified pedestrian is no longer in view of the camera.

The pedestrian awareness camera marks the latest addition to the award-winning Yale Reliant lineup of operator assist technologies, which take input from the work environment and equipment to alert operators of potential hazards and adjust lift truck performance. The solution initially launched in 2021, and has since accumulated over 24 million hours of run time on more than 8,300 units deployed in the field.

Combilift and CMETB Celebrate 10 Years of Pioneering Engineering Traineeship https://industrialmachinerydigest.com/material-handling/forklifts/combilift-and-cmetb-celebrate-10-years-of-pioneering-engineering-traineeship/ Fri, 09 May 2025 19:41:34 +0000 https://industrialmachinerydigest.com/?p=138164 This week saw a landmark celebration at Combilift’s global headquarters in Monaghan, marking the 10th anniversary of the highly successful OEM Engineering Traineeship—a collaborative initiative between Combilift and the Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB). The event, which welcomed past graduates, current trainees and local educators, underscored the program’s evolution from a local skills initiative to a cornerstone of regional industrial development.

CombiliftLaunched in 2015, the OEM Engineering Traineeship was born from a shared vision to tackle the skills gap in engineering and manufacturing with an industry-led approach. Today, with over 150 trainees having passed through its doors to achieve a QQI level 5 qualification, and with job placement rates above 80%, the program stands as a model for how industry and education can collaborate to mutual benefit.

Combilift, a global leader in materials handling solutions, has been central to this success. As the primary industry partner, Combilift has not only provided cutting-edge workplace experience but also ensured the course content remains aligned with real-world demands. “We wanted to create more than just a training program—we wanted to build a pathway into meaningful careers,” said Combilift Managing Director, Martin McVicar. “This traineeship has delivered exactly that, time and time again.”

The nine-month program blends 26 weeks of classroom-based learning at Monaghan Institute with 12 weeks of hands-on work experience in Combilift. Over the years, the course content has evolved to reflect changes in the manufacturing landscape, now including modules in Hydraulics, Lean Manufacturing, and, more recently, Mathematics to prepare students for greater work or educational opportunities.

CMETB has played a vital role in coordinating and delivering the educational aspect of the program. Their ongoing commitment to adapting the curriculum, securing government funding, and expanding the scheme to include other regional employers from 2025 reflects their strategic approach to workforce development. “It’s about staying ahead of the curve,” said Sinead McKenna of CMETB. “We’ve created a flexible, forward-looking course that equips learners with in-demand skills and supports local industry at the same time.”

One of the most compelling aspects of the program is its accessibility. Fully funded through government and EU support, it removes financial barriers for participants and trainees are offered a €300 bursary per week during practical placements within Combilift. Trainees also benefit from additional qualifications, including City & Guilds module in Hydraulics and a Lean Six Sigma White Belt.

The 10-year milestone was marked not only by reflection but by ambition for the future. Attendees at the celebration event heard first-hand from past graduates who have gone on to build thriving careers—many still with Combilift, some even progressing to degree-level study or engineering apprenticeships.

With enrolment now open for the September 2025 intake, both Combilift and CMETB are doubling down on their commitment to the next generation. As Martin McVicar put it, “The demand for talent in this sector is only growing, and we’re proud to continue building that talent right here in Monaghan.”

Hyster adds Hyster Tracker as standard feature on broad selection of lift trucks https://industrialmachinerydigest.com/material-handling/forklifts/hyster-adds-hyster-tracker-as-standard-feature-on-broad-selection-of-lift-trucks/ Tue, 22 Apr 2025 16:09:48 +0000 https://industrialmachinerydigest.com/?p=138038 Hyster announces that the base level of the company’s Hyster Tracker™ telemetry solution, known as wireless monitoring, will now be included as a standard feature on electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) counterbalanced lift trucks and select stand-up lift trucks. Wireless monitoring tracks lift truck utilization, impacts, location and diagnostic trouble codes. The technology allows operations to schedule and track preventive maintenance and better understand their total cost of fleet operations. Seven years of wireless communication fees are also included at no additional charge.

“Operations depend on our equipment to keep them moving in some of the toughest material handling environments on earth. Fleet managers and forklift operators are pushed to do more with less, and not just any technology can keep up. But the right tools can make their jobs easier by helping crews to work more efficiently and get the most out of their equipment,” says Steven LaFevers, Vice President, Global Emerging Technology, Hyster. “The goal with making wireless monitoring standard is to equip more operations with the insights that can help them extend the life of their trucks and reduce avoidable damage, downtime and costs.”

Hyster Tracker provides real-time fleet telemetry monitoring through easy-to-use dashboards that visualize data and provide actionable insights. It helps improve safety by encouraging operators to follow best practices, and it provides operations with visibility into their lift truck fleets so they can understand potential issues and implement proactive solutions. Data is stored on a cloud-based portal that can be accessed 24/7 through any internet enabled device. With wireless monitoring, operations can:

  • Track utilization proficiency of operators and equipment to optimize workflow and boost productivity
  • Monitor engine, transmission, hydraulic and electronic functions to help maximize uptime
  • Receive safety notifications in real time
  • Gain visibility into the location of lift trucks and operators and their activity
  • See real-time impact alerts to improve site safety and reduce avoidable damage
  • Access utilization, availability, charging and maintenance data to provide insight into right-sizing lift truck fleets

Wireless monitoring is the first of three levels in the Hyster Tracker offering. The second, wireless access, enables several other features, including operator key card access that allows only authorized users with appropriate training to use equipment and automatic shutdowns to save energy when no operator is present or when an impact is detected. In the event of impact detection, the truck will remain shut down until it is inspected for damage. The third level, wireless verification, adds the ability to electronically complete and track pre-shift checklists, including those mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
